  • Condition: This is a very special pre-owned cookie jar that is known to be cold-painted, therefore the paint is more likely to peel or flake off with use or age. There is no significant loss of paint on this particular piece, and the only notable loss of paint is along the inside rim of the opening, about 1/4", and an even smaller spot underneath the plane, around 1/8". Both are not visible when the jar is upright with the lid on. You can see hand painted brushstrokes along various parts of the plane, the lid, most notably on the wings, and the lettering. Some small stains from age and being handled may be present, but I have gently tried to clean what I could. No cracks or crazing, and the inside is very clean, with no staining.

    If you’ve found your way here, you likely know that this hard-to-find cookie jar is a super rare and special employee-only item gifted to random Southwest Airlines employees as a surprise by the president around two decades ago. This particular specimen is in superb condition considering its age, and still has nearly all of its paint. There are manufacturing characteristics that make it even more unique, such as the hand painted face and Southwest Airlines branding.
    This is THE ORIGINAL Southwest Airlines Cookie Jar, meant for employees, cold-painted and only gifted. They can be confused with the two other cookie jars produced later on, blue and another yellow one, not cold-painted, and sold rather than gifted.
    This cookie jar will be packaged with great care and insured & shipped via USPS Priority Mail.

    "The PR department at Southwest Airlines came through for me, explaining the jars have never been for sale, but are a gift from the then President Coleen Barrett to employees. The jars are not given for any special or particular occasion, just a surprise treat.
    Barrett had the jars commissioned specifically for her to gift and she has given out several hundred over five or six years. And since Southwest’s employees are particularly devoted to the company, they are a very special gift, hence rarely seen for sale.
    The total number produced is not known, but thought to be in the 500 – 700 number range.
    Much of the jar is cold-painted and flakes very easily."
    Fortunately, this jar has held up very well despite that!
