It’s Christmas in July! And a walk down memory lane back to the 1950s as this Woolworths is all set for the Christmas season. Using a wood crate type box from Michaels I added thin cardboard for the walls & flooring. I cut out over 60 pieces of white & yellow paper & glued them to the floor in a checkerboard design. Then glued on shelves, signs & picture of toy department to add depth & give illusion of a larger store. I made the window display using the clear lid from a staples container(bottom part of container is in Christmas dept.) Attached cardboard bottom for the items on display. Attached a stone design border in front.I try to add a unique feature in each of my Woolworths, one had a photo booth, another had a girdle/bra department, another had an exterior door leading to the luncheonette, etc. Have included the lunch counter in most of the stores but this time made a lunch booth too. Constructed of cardboard added foam core to the seats & backs & covered them with a red vinyl fabric. Let’s just say a Barbie clone raincoat is now a short jacket! Made the table also & the booth area is glued in, as well as the sink/ grill unit. I made a deep fryer from wire mesh & paper clip, glued it into sink that I divided, the other side is now a small sink. Made the Orange Soda Dispenser.
It’s after Thanksgiving & the Christmas shopping season has officially begun. The employees have been busy decorating the store & stocking the holiday section with all types of decorations to dazzle the eyes. Vera who works in the Luncheonette is especially looking forward to this Christmas as her husband who is in the army has a 3 day pass & will be coming home for the holiday to be with his sweetie. Sue behind the cash register is enjoying a bit of a respite before the next onslaught of holiday shoppers. And customers Thelma & Louise are having some food & drink for sustenance before they start their shopping.
